New York (PRWEB) June 16, 2014
Andrea Hagelgans, long-time Vice President for Media and Strategy at Camino Public Relations, has been named the Director of Agency Communications for Mayor Bill de Blasio.
"We are thrilled that New Yorkers will have the expertise, compassion and vision of Andrea Hagelgans as she joins the senior leadership of the de Blasio administration," said Elizabeth Toledo, President of Camino Public Relations. "Andrea is one of the nation's most talented communications professionals and we send our best wishes as she takes this prominent role."
During Hagelgans’ tenure at Camino, the firm won top industry accolades from PR Week including Nonprofit Campaign of the Year and Crisis Campaign of the Year.
Camino Public Relations also announces the appointment of two senior media professionals, Lyndsay Christian and Lauren Gray, who bring additional broadcast, consumer, legal and campaign experience to the Camino team. They join media expert Alejandra Cardenas Cuestas, who helped launch Camino's Arizona office last year and has a deep history leading campaigns and reaching diverse audiences ranging from consumer to social justice.
The expansion of Camino's media services and crisis communications work in the social change sector aligns with a growing trend among social change organizations that more fully integrate messaging, media advocacy and new media technologies in overarching strategic planning. The firm’s strategists have been at the helm of the most prominent and controversial social issues of this time.
Christian joined Camino in April 2014. She is a former broadcast journalist and a senior public relations professional. "Joining Camino's media team has allowed me to help support organizations that are creating a positive impact on some of the most pressing social issues of our time, from economic justice to women's health," said Christian. "Collectively, we use strategy to move the needle in thinking and perception."
Before joining Camino, Christian supported national accounts for a boutique public relations agency developing media strategies and regularly securing media placements in top-tier outlets, like The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Good Morning America and CBS This Morning. Prior to this work, Christian worked as a broadcast journalist for NBC Houston and FOX Tulsa. Christian also contributed to Houston's H-TV, a local government access channel with emphasis on community programming, as a producer and talent. Christian is a Communication Studies graduate of the University of North Texas.
Gray joined Camino in May 2014. She has nearly seven years of experience transforming complex legal language and intersectional concepts into clear, dynamic messaging and leading campaigns. Most recently, Gray helped shape the national conversation surrounding military sexual assault reform as Communications Director for Service Women's Action Network (SWAN), the advocacy organization that worked alongside New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand to form and draft the Military Justice Improvement Act. She also worked at the Delaware Department of Justice in the Office of Attorney General Joseph R. Biden, III.
"I am excited to join Camino's dynamic team of innovative and progressive professionals," said Gray. "Together, we will continue using strategic communications to shape the national conversations that surround social justice issues and create pathways for change."
Gray has secured coverage in publications including the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, The Guardian, Huffington Post, US News and World Report, Politico, and The Hill as well as programming featured on MSNBC, CNN, PBS, NPR, and FOX News. She has a law degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law, where she focused on human rights. Gray has a Bachelor of Arts in English from Xavier University with minors in gender and diversity studies and peace studies.
