TRX Systems Awarded Three Indoor Location and Mapping Patents
Greenbelt, Maryland (PRWEB) May 14, 2014 -- TRX Systems, developer of the NEON Indoor Location System, has been awarded three US patents covering systems and methods for locating and tracking personnel and assets indoors. The patents include use of accelerometers, gyros, magnetic field detectors, pressure, light, RF, GPS and other common sensors to support indoor location and indoor mapping. The TRX solution uses inferred features and signatures to establish full three-dimensional maps of buildings and underground structures.
GPS does not work indoors or underground, and it often has large errors in urban areas, especially near buildings. The TRX NEON indoor location algorithms use low cost sensors embedded in devices to provide an estimate of location and to detect and map building features, including stairwells, elevators, and other landmarks, together with building signatures such as magnetic fields and RF signals. The feature maps enable automated indoor corrections that provide accurate location during periods when GPS is absent or unreliable. The TRX sensor maps are three-dimensional, enabling location on specific floors in a building and delivery of seamless location for individuals moving from floor to floor (e.g., by stairs or elevators). The TRX solution can also detect transitions as a person moves from riding in a vehicle to walking, moves outdoors to indoors, etc., and uses these context changes to modify the navigation solution. RF ranging from Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and other sources, including GPS, can also be used to refine estimates of a device’s location.
“TRX mapping, feature detection, and transition detection algorithms deliver improved location services for defense, public safety, and commercial mobile applications,” says Dr. Carole Teolis, cofounder and Chief Technology Officer, TRX Systems, Inc. The TRX solution creates substantial opportunities for developers addressing mobile and wearable accessory markets. Map and visualization applications can leverage TRX algorithms to efficiently create and update navigation maps, enabling broad-based mapping of indoor spaces.
About TRX
