An often overlooked issue that still plagues humanity today is the need for clean water for drinking, and irrigating farms across the world. Humanity has always populated areas where water resources were rich for growing crops and daily use. This is likely the reason for early modern settlements on the Nile river and other water rich ancient areas. People are able to live in areas that were off limits even a few decades ago because of increased technology and innovative thinking when it comes to reducing water use and getting water where it is needed for human consumption.
Jimmy Johnson will be hosting a segment with Leading Edge that will be discussing the innovations in irrigation that will not only save water, but bring extra water to areas otherwise considered uninhabitable. Being able to grow new crops in new areas with less water will improve the food resources of the entire planet.
