York Bridge Concepts™ (YBC) Unveils Triple Design at Discovery Park of America
Union City, Tennessee (PRWEB) May 14, 2014 -- Located in Union City, Tennessee, Discovery Park of America offers visitors a world-class entertainment and educational experience with more than 70,000 SF of exhibits focused on nature, science, technology, history, and art. Described as “Smithsonian-like”, the $100 million dollar, 50-acre project has boosted the local economy and tourism sector by offering an experience normally found in larger, cosmopolitan cities. The Park’s mission is simple: to “enhance children and adults’ educational experiences and to inspire them to reach their full potential”. Current exhibits and programs inspire guests to “see beyond” their possibilities and increase their knowledge in many areas.
Surrounded by Decero™ designed York Timber Bridges, the 100,000 SF Discovery Center is the centerpiece of the Park, showcasing ten galleries ranging from History, Science & Space and Transportation. Created and constructed with the bridge builder’s “from scratch” philosophy, the venue’s trio of timber crossings are the focal point of the Park’s surrounding landscape. The highlight of the perfectly placed pedestrian bridges is York’s signature Timber Covered Bridge. “One bridge in particular illustrates their hard work and attention to detail. York Bridge built Discovery Park’s covered bridge and its beauty definitely stands out on the grounds,” confirmed Jim Rippy, CEO of Discovery Park of America. Hand-crafted on site, this unique free span creation is reminiscent of traditional historic structures, built one rough sawn, heavy timber at a time. Perceiving the individualistic qualities of the setting, York’s Decero™ Design Team approached this project with renewed enthusiasm: “Discovery park literally ‘rises from the cornfields’ in rural Tennessee. We wanted to replicate the beauty of historic covered construction by adding even more experiences for the Park’s visitors. Crossing a York Covered Bridge gives a permanence to the transition, an out of the ordinary experience that a different crossing simply does not deliver,” states Gil Dreyfus, Director of Development for the International Timber Company.
