Science4Us Has Been Announced as an AAP Distinguished Achievement Award Finalist
Fort Lauderdale, Florida (PRWEB) May 14, 2014 -- Science4Us is pleased to announce that is has been selected as a finalist for the 2014 REVERE Distinguished Achievement Awards by the Association of American Publishers in the category of Whole Curriculum Programs - Science, Heath, and the Environment.
The Science4Us curriculum was created to build a solid foundation in science and an interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). After seeing that two thirds of American high school students were already behind grade level in science by fourth grade, John Edelson, the founder of Science4Us, decided to use his experience in creating digital education products and games to design a science curriculum that would increase students’ performance and interest in STEM. Efficacy studies performed by independent researchers at McREL (Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning) found that students using the Science4Us curriculum significantly outperformed students not using Science4Us, as measured by a pre- and post-assessment. Released in the spring of 2013, Science4Us has been working with teachers and districts to implement the curriculum into elementary classrooms across the country.
"... Leadership tomorrow depends on how we educate our students today—especially in science, technology, engineering and math." — President Barack Obama, September 16, 2010
Built on the 5E instructional model, the Science4Us curriculum is a complete, core science curriculum that aligns to state standards as well as the Next Generation Science Standards. Science4Us delivers digital science experiences to early elementary students in kindergarten through second grades that include integrated technology, engineering, math, literacy and the arts. In addition to the digital materials provided for students, Science4Us provides multiple opportunities for real-world, hands-on investigations and reinforcement of the concepts.
For teachers, Science4Us provides pedagogical and content training, embedded and on-demand, that increases their comfort with teaching science and does not require a large time commitment. Video and printable versions of teacher lessons includes deeper content knowledge, best practices, common student misconceptions, vocabulary connections and more. Teachers also have access to step-by- step teaching guides that explain exactly how to follow along with the curriculum and implement it within the classroom.
Science4Us, a newer and much smaller company, will be competing against larger organizations such as Discovery Education, K-12 Inc., and Accelerated Learning for the top prize. Winners will be announced on June 4th at the 2014 REVERE Awards Gala taking place at the Capital Hilton in Washington, DC.
