New Edition of Loot Pursuit from Dig-It! Games Explores Pompeii, Turns Math Drills into Exciting Cultural Adventure
Bethesda, MD (PRWEB) May 14, 2014 -- Math drills and mystery intersect in Dig-It! Games’ newest iOS app, Loot Pursuit: Pompeii. The interactive educational game, which expands the Loot Pursuit series beyond the original site at Tulum, provides a hands-on, drills-based approach to solving math problems that align to the Common Core Mathematics Standards for 6th and 7th grade.
Loot Pursuit: Pompeii brings history to life while testing students’ problem-solving skills at their own pace. In the game, players must solve challenging math problems involving algebra, geometry, fractions, integers and ratios to recover more than 75 genuine artifacts stolen from the ancient Roman city of Pompeii. The immersive game creates an interactive learning experience that features:
• 25 unique levels and three levels of difficulty;
• Cross-curriculum content (social studies, math and language arts);
• Selective practice mode to review specific skills and problems;
• Detailed factual information about Roman history, artifacts and geography;
• Randomized problems that encourage repeat play;
• Option to play timed or untimed;
• Beautiful graphics and original music that transport players to Pompeii.
“With Loot Pursuit: Pompeii, we set out to create a fun alternative to run-of-the-mill math drills,” said Suzi Wilczynski, President and Founder, Dig-It! Games. “This new app gives 6th and 7th grade students an interactive tool to practice specific math skills and develop a core understanding of the math process with content that aligns to learning standards.”
In the game, Team Q—the mystery-solving crew from the award-winning Mayan Mysteries educational game—has followed the notorious thief Ladrone to the ancient site of Pompeii, where she has hidden artifacts in boxes strewn throughout the city. Alongside the team, players learn about the ancient Roman culture preserved by volcanic ash as they unlock individual boxes to retrieve the stolen artifacts. Overall, players are immersed in a user-driven, story-based experience.
“When students were testing the game, we couldn’t pull them away, even the ones who professed to hate math!” said Wilcyznski. “They were also motivated to find the various artifacts while simultaneously learning about math and the story of Pompeii. This kind of feedback tells me we were successful in blending learning and fun in Loot Pursuit: Pompeii.”
Loot Pursuit: Pompeii is the second game in Dig-It! Games’ Loot Pursuit series, and its latest app to address the educational needs of middle-school students. Available for $3.99 on the iTunes Store, the game has been designed for iPad users, and proceeds from all sales support middle-school education. Loot Pursuit: Tulum, Mayan Mysteries, MayaNumbers, and Can U Dig It! also cater to the specific age-appropriate learning demands of children ages 11 and up. All four iOS apps are free to download on iPad and iPhone devices and allow players to earn achievements in the international Game Center.
