Entrants are in the short rows now to make the June 1 deadline for the Tenth Annual Veneer Tech Craftsman’s Challenge™, the international design competition with cash awards that highlights achievement in the use of natural wood veneer products in the categories of Architectural Woodworking, Cabinetry, Furniture, Specialty Products, Store Fixtures, and Student Design. There is no entry fee, and material need not have been sourced through Veneer Technologies to be eligible. Results will be announced at IWF Atlanta, August 20-23, at the Veneer Technologies booth 2067.
The Veneer Tech Craftsman’s Challenge recognizes all segments of the industry, from woodworking design professionals and students to distributors and sales representatives. A cash award of $3000 will be made to the creator of the grand prize winning entry. The distributor of the veneer for the grand prize winning entry will receive $2000, and the corresponding distributor salesman will receive $1000. Other category-winning entries receive $1000. Non-cash and special awards may be given at the judges’ discretion.
All entries must have been produced between January 2009-May 2014 and not previously entered in a Craftsman’s Challenge competition. Entry form and rules are found at http://www.veneertech.com. Each entrant may submit up to three projects; each requires a separate entry form and accompanying photograph(s). The 2014 judges are Wave Oglesby, vice president sales and marketing, Columbia Forest Products; Alfred Sharp, studio furniture maker; and Tim Fixmer, publisher of CabinetMaker+FDM.
