Northwest Community Healthcare (NCH) reported $96.5 million in community benefit in 2013.

Northwest Community Healthcare (NCH) reported $96.5 million in community benefit in 2013, a 9 percent increase from the previous year, according to its annual report filed with the Illinois Attorney General. The report, Moving Forward Giving Back, details NCH programs aimed at improving healthcare for the community it serves.

NCH’s community benefit programs are designed to increase access to healthcare, bridge the gap for the medically underserved, promote wellness programs and fund education and research.

With the expansion of the Medicaid program in Illinois, more individuals with fewer resources in the community are now covered by Medicaid, but overall health and oral health resources are limited. In fiscal year 2013, NCH provided $74.1 million in government-sponsored care and nearly $15 million in charity care.

NCH’s community outreach programs focus on improving the health and quality of life for community members. In fiscal year 2013, NCH directed more than $550,000 to health and wellness community programs, including senior care, cancer support and tobacco cessation classes.

NCH directed more than $3.4 million in health education for students and allied health professionals and more than $1.1 million in financial and in-kind support to community partners and agencies.

“We are committed to developing programs and forming partnerships that help bridge the gap for individuals who have difficulty obtaining care,” NCH CEO Steve Scogna says. “We know that in caring for the underserved we create healthier communities for everyone.”
