Local Firm Warns Texas Property Owners that Deadline to Appeal Is Approaching
Houston, Texas (PRWEB) May 15, 2014 -- Houston-based Republic Property Tax urges Texans to act quickly if they are going to appeal their property taxes.
The rebounding economy has caused property values to rise drastically, which means that Houston property owners will be paying more in property taxes in 2014. The National Taxpayers Union also estimates that up to 60% of properties are being assessed at a rate that is higher than their current value. Texas counties offer residents the opportunity to appeal their property taxes, but the process can be difficult.
“The appeals process is complex and time consuming,” stated Jayson Mullin, co-owner of Houston-based Republic Property Tax. “The property owners must present substantial evidence that their property has been overvalued, and all of the paperwork must be submitted before the deadline.”
For Harris County, all appeals must be filed by June 2 in order for property owners to see the reduction on the statements that are issued in the fall.
“If property owners do not take action by June 2, they will be required to pay the full balance on their statement,” explained Mullin. “Our goal is to take on the difficult aspects of property tax appeals so that our clients can benefit from lower property taxes.”
Texas residents can learn more about appraisal values and the appeals process from the Harris County Appraisal District at Republic PropertyTax's website.
