2014 Bliss Award™ Winner for Best Boating Community of the Year

Is there anything better than combining a love for sailing and the opportunity to help cure cancer? On the weekend of June 6th-8th, 2014 River Dunes will host the fourth annual sailing event benefitting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The past three years have seen a total of over $300,000 raised for the organization that provides funding for blood cancer research and services to patients in the community. More than 40 boats have already registered to participate with only a few spots remaining.

Boat registration includes four nights free dockage, a Regatta t-shirt, two tickets to the post-race Shoreside Celebration, and a Captain’s Reception. Sailing vessels of all sizes are welcome. The regatta will feature three classes, Spinnaker, Jib & Main, and Cruising in a race course at the mouth of the Neuse River with two races on Saturday and one on Sunday. The Oriental Dinghy Club is functioning as the official race committee.

Awards ceremony will be held at the River Dunes Harbor Club on Sunday afternoon. Registration and information are available at or contact Heather Sanger at 919-367-4080. Tickets are also on sale for the June 7 Shoreside Celebration that includes dinner by the Chelsea, dance music by Black and Blue, and live and silent auctions. The auctions will feature a variety of items including vacation get-aways, original artwork, decorative accessories, wine baskets, and gift certificates for dining, spa services, and more. Shoreside Celebration tickets can be purchased on the Regatta web site or in person at Nautical Wheelers on Broad Street in Oriental.
