The hospital system is a multi-state network, including hospitals, urgent and occupational care, imaging centers, home health and primary care clinics. It utilizes a variety of electronic health record (EHR) systems in its inpatient and ambulatory settings. Though one of the hospital system’s EHR systems includes built-in Direct Messaging support, its other systems had various disjointed approaches that were not suited to its needs. To address this issue and strive to meet Stage 2 Meaningful Use requirements related to using The Direct Project for Transfer of Care (ToC) scenarios, the hospital system decided to deploy a “best-of-breed” solution for one of its regional hospitals and ambulatory providers.
