Investors 1st Day Wisconsin - Protecting Wisconsin's Investors & Promoting Economic Growth - This Global Investor Protection Initiative Was Created in Milwaukee in 2013
Milwaukee, WI (PRWEB) May 15, 2014 -- Today, May 15, 2014, is Investors 1st Day across Wisconsin. This is the second year that Gov. Scott Walker has proclaimed the Day to affirm the importance of investors and the imperative to protect them. Last year, Gov. Walker was the only government official in the world to issue such a proclamation. In a single year, the initiative has spread globally to more than 60 CFA Societies including New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Canada, India, France, Australia, Singapore, and Mexico.
Investors 1st is a global, educational and advocacy initiative focused on investors. It is formed around the core beliefs that everyone benefits: 1) when there is fair and equal treatment of all investors, 2) when all investors have resources to make good investment decisions, and 3) when investors are well-informed on investment-related issues.
Investors 1st was conceived and established by the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Society of Milwaukee in 2013 to highlight the importance of investors to the development and continuation of strong, sound, growing economies. The benefits of a vibrant economy are increased job creation, rising incomes, a growing tax base, and economic diversity. Investors 1st also recognizes that trust, ethical practices, fair treatment, safety, and security are paramount to the investment process. Without these, investors are less likely to invest, which impairs economic growth and cuts standards of living.
“This is an exciting day,” said Bill McGinnis, CFA, and President of CFA Society of Milwaukee. “Our State has taken a recognized leadership position in promoting investor interests worldwide. Wisconsin is fortunate to have a strong partnership of fine educational institutions, progressive government support, and outstanding investment and financial firms providing a foundation for economic growth. This successful partnership provides a model that others around the world may follow and build upon.”
To celebrate Investors 1st Day, CFA Society of Milwaukee (CFASM) is proud to again sponsor Make A Difference Wisconsin’s Annual Investment Conference which is being held on our Day. CFASM is a strong believer in Make A Difference’s mission of improving the financial literacy of Wisconsin’s youth; empowering students to make sound financial decisions and take control of their financial future. This furthers CFASM’s year-round commitment to Make A Difference Wisconsin as their largest provider of volunteers (Board of Directors, program development, and in-classroom instructors).
Through the Investors 1st website (http://www.Investors1st.org), resources are provided to assist investors in handling their investments. Information to help the public better understand investment-related issues is also available. A resource of particular interest is the Statement of Investor Rights (http://www.Investors1st.org/statement_of_investor_rights.pdf). This tool helps investors ensure that investment professionals are putting the investor’s interests first; ahead of their own or those of their firms.
CFA Society of Milwaukee includes over 600 investment professionals in Milwaukee and eastern Wisconsin. It is one of 143 member societies of the CFA Institute, which has over 116,000 members globally. The CFA designation is a professional accreditation often held by investment managers, investment analysts, and other top investment professionals. It demonstrates a mastery of the skills most needed for investment analysis and decision making in today’s fast-evolving global financial industry. Professionals holding the designation or sitting for the required three examinations must annually pledge adherence to the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct, which are among the most stringent in the industry. The CFA designation has been referred to as the Gold Standard in the investment profession.
