Bendheim Channel Glass Walls Contribute Upscale Design Element to Redeveloped & Rebranded Jersey Gardens Mall
New York, NY (PRWEB) May 19, 2014 -- Bendheim Wall Systems’ channel glass is a key design element in the $30-million renovation of The Outlet Collection | Jersey Gardens mall in Elizabeth, N.J. In addition to its sleek, modern design qualities and daylighting advantages, the luxurious aesthetic of channel glass contributes to the owner’s goal of rebranding New Jersey’s largest outlet mall into an upscale shopping destination.
Bendheim Wall Systems’ channel glass frames four main entrances of the 1.5 million-square-foot building. The translucent, double-glazed, pebble-textured glass walls create the contemporary, streamlined look sought by the architects at Seattle-based Callison LLC and inspired by the top fashion malls in the world. The diffusing sandblast finish of the glass imbues the interiors with a soft light. At dusk, the channel glass walls are edge-lit for a gentle glow. The mall’s new brand name in black lettering is elegantly displayed against the luminous channel glass walls.
While the double-glazed exterior walls diffuse beneficial daylight to the interior, single-glazed Bendheim channel glass assemblies clad the central courtyard elevator column, gracefully obscuring mechanical systems and contributing to a seamless, continuous design aesthetic.
“The crisp design of our glass was a perfect complement to the mall’s new branding needs and contributed greatly to the overall design,” said Michael Tryon, Bendheim Wall Systems General Manager. “The channel glass carries the design aesthetic beautifully from the exterior to the interiors, tying all the elements together.”
Bendheim Wall Systems provided approximately 4,000 square feet of its Lamberts 504 Rough Cast™ channel glass for the project, along with its design and engineering expertise. In addition to collaborating with the architects to achieve the desired results, Bendheim’s team also assisted the glazier, Clifton Architectural Glass and Mirror of Clifton, N.J. Together the two companies identified opportunities to hasten the installation, including pre-assembling Bendheim’s signature SF60 Store Front frames at the glazier’s shop before shipping them to the site.
Bendheim Wall Systems’ channel glass is produced with approximately 60% recycled material, including up to 40% post-consumer content carefully selected from the municipal waste stream. Manufactured in Europe’s only clean-burning, oxygen-fueled cast glass plant, it is also the only factory-produced tempered channel glass certified by the Safety Glazing Certification Council (SGCC) and available with a 100% heat soak testing.
