We are proud to be involved with this project for the benefit of all international shippers and look forward to continued partnerships between our company and FIU.

Florida International University (FIU) Masters of International Business (MIB) students and international freight forwarder LILLY + Associates International released a semester-long study weighing the benefits between PortMiami and Panama as the natural distribution hub for the Americas.

"The meticulous level of work performed by the FIU MIB students, under the direction of Professor Jerry Haar and our staff at LILLY + Associates, shows the true caliber of the University’s program,” said LILLY + Associates International Business Development Manager Nelson R. Cabrera. “The study’s findings have the potential to save companies a tremendous cost in their overall supply chain cost and create operational efficiencies.”

The FIU graduate student team, along with guidance from LILLY + Associates staff, investigated the benefits and pitfalls of each hub, including each port’s infrastructure, international freight rates, the overall cost of doing business, the characteristics of typical industries, the socio-political tendencies and economic trends of each distribution hub. Based on the findings and following an iterative analysis, the team identified the strengths and weaknesses of each distribution hub and made strategic recommendations based on the specific commodity on where that industry would be best served to operate its international Latin American distribution hub.

“The research goes down to the granular level to see which industries would be better served with a Panama or Miami distribution center,” said Cabrera. “We are proud to be involved with this project for the benefit of all international shippers and look forward to continued partnerships between our company and FIU."
