This is a really useful arpeggio for blues playing.

A Dominant 7th chord or arpeggio is composed of the root, major third, perfect fifth and the minor seventh (flat seventh) notes of the major scale. Its function is to resolve to the tonic note or chord.
“This is a really useful arpeggio for blues playing,” says Darville, “we are basically outlining the 7th chord, as you know the 7th chord is widely used in the blues.” Jacques demonstrates this arpeggio in the key of A as follows; 5th fret of the 6th string with 2nd finger to 4th fret of the 5th string with first finger to 7th fret with 4th finger, 5th fret of the 4th string with first finger to 7th fret with 3rd finger, 6th fret of the 3rd string with 2nd finger to 8th fret with 4th finger and 5th fret of the first string with first finger. Jacques demonstrates this both ascending and descending and various ways you can phrase it to accommodate it to fit the rhythm you are playing it over. Jacques also demonstrates how you can combine the arpeggio with the blues scale to really create some great licks. Darville says that you should practice it in different keys as to master it to fit over any chord progression and playing situation.
