G. Michelle Ferreira, Managing Shareholder of the San Francisco office of the international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, has been recognized by The San Francisco Business Times as one of the “Most Influential Women” in Bay Area Business. Ferreira and the other receipients of this honor will be recognized at a gala awards dinner on June 12 at the HiIton San Francisco Union Square.

The San Francisco Business Times recognizes women who have risen to the highest positions in corporate, private sector and larger nonprofit/government institutions in the Bay Area. According to the publication, this list includes women who are accomplished in a range of fields and though they work in different industries, they share perserverance and a passion for what they do – and volunteer their time and expertise to help improve their communities.

“We are very proud of Michelle who has managed our San Francisco office for the last two years and has successfully continued our strategy of building a collaborative team of highly skilled attorneys,” said Greenberg Traurig Co-Chairman, Matthew Gorson. “Michelle leads by example – embodying the highest level of service for clients and rolling up her sleeves to participate fully in her communities at home, professionally and within the firm – adding value every step of the way. We are excited for Michelle to receive this recognition and for her continued leadership in the Bay Area.”

Named by the Daily Journal as one of the “10 Emerging Law Firm Leaders in California” in 2013, Ferreira is a former tax litigator for the Internal Revenue Service, and brings unique experience to clients who have complex and sensitive tax and penalty disputes. She represents clients before the IRS, and state and local tax agencies at the audit, collection, appeals and litigation stages. Ferreira has 17 reported decisions in the U.S. Tax Court on issues such as unreported income, family limited partnerships, civil and criminal tax fraud, penalty assessments, statutes of limitation assertions, valuation disputes, controversies involving valuation discounts for lack of control and lack of marketability, tax shelters, hobby losses, complex real estate transactions, tax structured transactions, and unsubstantiated business expenses.

Ferreira serves on the Executive Committee of the National Association of State Bar Tax Sections and is the President of the San Francisco Tax Club. In 2012, she received the V. Judsen Klein Award from the California State Bar’s Taxation Section, an award which is given annually to one tax lawyer who has demonstrated a high level of professionalism, passion, and excellence in the tax law field as the award’s honoree, V. Judson Klein.
