Custo Barcelona Closes Miami Fashion Week's First Night of Runway Shows
Miami, FL (PRWEB) May 16, 2014 -- Miami Fashion Week opened the first evening of its 16th edition with a series of spectacular shows highlighted by the winner announcement of the Eastern Air Lines design competition and capped of by a special pre-summer showing by Spanish fashion brand Custo Barcelona.
The evening kicked off with the Miami Overture and Miami Style Showcase, which revealed the talents and abilities of local Miami designers. Erin Healey led with designs that conveyed classic couture with a modern edge and a focus on highly textured fabrics. Vika Frovola followed up with a seasonal capsule collection of playful cocktail and evening dresses. Colombian-born, Fabirizio de Castro came next with a collection representative of his strong character and flair. Nicolas Felizola was the marquee name of the Miami Stlye Showcase, presenting a men’s undergarment and women’s resortwear collection. The Felizola UnderWorld line featured a series of daring and enhancing men’s underwear styles. His women’s resortwear captured the understated elegance and glamour that his collections are known for and featured vibrant hues and natural fabrics.
The evening progressed into the Eastern Air Lines design competition which showcased five Miami-based fashion designer participants who created design flight attendant uniforms that included ideas for skirt, vest, blouse, pants, jackets, knee length dresses and an additional look of the designers’ choice. The designers were also tasked with conveying the Miami/Caribbean/Latin American aesthetic into their designs. Designer Lisu Vega took home the prize with her modern and contemporary take on the flight attendant uniforms. Her designs will be utilized as the template for Eastern Air Lines flight attendants’ uniforms on future flights.
To culminate the night, special guest Custo Barcelona, lead by innovative and internationally renowned head designer Custo Dalmau, presented the “Custo Universe” line with shades of reds and fuchsia reminiscent of summer.

Miami Fashion Week continues tomorrow May 16th with the Lola Kids show, Jones African American Showcase, Peru Showcase, and closed by special guest Andres Sarda.
