Katie Beers And Her Childhood Therapist Team Up With Family Law Attorneys For Mental Health Professional Workshop
Long Island, NY (PRWEB) May 16, 2014 -- An important legal workshop with several important guests including Katie Beers speaking about her ordeal as a nine-year old child kidnapped and being held for 17 days and her extraordinary survival and recovery. She will share the details of her pre-kidnapping life of neglect and abuse and how the system “failed” her; the foster care she received after being found; and the critical role of therapy in her successful recovery and transformation from childhood to adult life.
Ms. Beers’ therapist for over a decade, Mary Bromley, LCSW, who practices in East Hampton, NY, will provide a firsthand view of the challenges they faced during Katie’s treatment, starting with their important first meeting and interview after her rescue. She will discuss the value of a “team” approach, the cooperation and support of Katie’s foster family, the local community and law enforcement. Ms. Bromley will review the various therapeutic approaches she employed, including interview techniques, art therapy, and co-sessions with others, including another kidnap victim.
Attorneys for Wisselman, Harounian & Associates, P.C. will discuss legal issues related to this case, including warning signs of abuse or neglect, the role and responsibility of Child Protective Services (CPS), mandated reporting, and confidentiality by the therapist.
