Run Across America to Support Firefighters
Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) May 21, 2014 -- Dallas ultra marathon and endurance athlete Jeff Venable will run across America to raise awareness and funds for firefighters this summer.
Chief Venable retired from the Dallas Fire Department in 2013 and felt the strong need to give back to her work family, the US firefighters. Many do not know that three out of four US firefighters are volunteer firefighters, receiving few, if any, benefits. To help out a 501c3 charity was created to help in three areas. Safety equipment for firefighters. Benefits for the families of firefighters killed in the line of duty (LODD). And to fund research into the better treatment of burn victims.
To jump start the charity a huge event was needed for Support for Firefighters, Inc. This is when the Running for the Hoses event really took shape. Running for the Hoses would be an event the size and challenge of solving the problems facing firefighters. A coast to coast run to raise awareness and funds for firefighters and their families was the outcome.
In an interview Jeff and Linda stated, "It all sounded so easy two years ago. It seemed so far away that it would be easy to prepare for this epic challenge...heck it seemed like it might even be fun!" Amazing how things can change over just a few short years. The event is beginning in a matter of days now, and Jeff and Linda are saying "how truly awed that we are by the size an scope of this undertaking. It isn't like this hasn't been done before, it has. But the fact that others have managed to survive and accomplish this doesn't seem to help."
Jeff and Linda are asking for sponsorship, donations, and for people to follow their journey across America through social media. The motto of Support for Firefighters, Inc. is "They will answer your call when you need help...will you answer theirs?" is their fund raising cry.
Donations can be left on both the website http://www.supportforfirefighters.com and on the Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/supportforfirefighters.
This epic journey begins May 31, 2014 from Coos Bay, Oregon. There will be a stop in Colorado Springs at the IAAF Fallen Firefighter Memorial to visit and take pictures, but the big goal is to be in New York City for the 9-11 Memorial Ceremony. The trip officially ends in Emmitsburg, Maryland at the National Fallen Firefighter Memorial event on the October 11, 2014 weekend.
Please follow Jeff, Linda and their three dogs on their epic journey, and don't forget to tell all your friends to make a donation to this worthy cause. Our firefighters and their families thank your for your concern and support.
