Retired Governor George Deukmejian Endorses John Morris for Los Angeles County Assessor
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 29, 2014 -- A generation ago, Los Angeles County was synonymous with government reform efforts from Proposition 13 to laws that required government be open, transparent, and limited and the man at the center of many of those efforts was retired Governor George Deukmejian. In a rare move, Governor Deukmejian has endorsed John Morris for Los Angeles County Assessor.
"Los Angeles County has produced incredible leaders throughout its history and it is an honor to be endorsed by Governor Deukmejian, undoubtedly one of its greatest and most humble," said John Morris. "His support is a great asset to our campaign to bring the Assessor's office into the 21st Century."
Already unanimously endorsed by every major daily newspaper in Los Angeles County taking a position on the Assessor's race and major groups like the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, John Morris is heading into the final days before the June 3 primary election.
"Taxpayers, reporters, LA County leaders all understand that politics and $1 trillion in property assessments do not mix," explained John Morris. "That has been my message and plan from the start. That plan if in place now would save taxpayers millions that are better spent on improving classrooms, roads, and neighborhoods."
During Governor Deukmejian's two terms as California's Governor, state government ran so efficiently that it paid for emergencies like earthquakes from a rainy day fund, guaranteed funding levels to schools, and actually issued small refunds to taxpayers because the state budget surplus was so large.
"Good government happens when you bring focus to your operations. I have proven that throughout my 24 year career as a prosecutor and leader in the District Attorney's office," said Morris. "Governor Deukmejian brought that type of focus to state government and I look forward to bringing the same to LA County Assessor."
