UC Hastings and Stanford Law School Host 13th Annual International Online Dispute Resolution Forum June 21-27
San Jose, CA (PRWEB) May 21, 2014 -- Coming to the U.S. for the first time, the 13th annual international Online Dispute Resolution Forum will be hosted in Silicon Valley and San Francisco from June 21-27. Together with The Internet Bar Organization, The University of California – Hastings College of the Law, Stanford Law School, Modria and the National Center for Technology and Dispute Resolution, the conference will bring together legal practitioners, mediators, scholars, ecommerce professionals and experts for a week-long series of meetings highlighting advancements and practical applications of online dispute resolution (ODR).
The forum will begin on June 21 - 22 with the ‘Tech for Justice’ Legal Hackathon, held at Code for America's HQ in San Francisco, which will bring together law students, coders, designers and ODR experts from around the world to envision solutions for a variety of online and offline disputes. Teams will compete by designing prototype resolution processes, and the winning teams, selected by a prestigious panel of investors and technology experts, will take home cash prizes.
On Wednesday, June 25, the forum continues with a one day TED-style conference at UC Hastings College of the Law on best practices for consumer resolutions in the collaborative economy. This day will feature presenters from leading sharing economy companies like eBay, AirBNB, TaskRabbit, Elance and others. Keynote talks will be delivered by Mitch Kapor, Founder of Lotus, and Amanda Long, Director General of Consumers International. The winners from the ‘Tech for Justice’ hackathon will be announced and celebrated at a closing party in the SkyRoom overlooking downtown San Francisco.
The forum will wrap up June 26-27 at Stanford Law School. These days will convene top legal, tech and ODR experts to address cutting edge issues in law, technology and dispute resolution. Topics to be addressed include technology and the future of law and legal practice, privacy complaints, intellectual property, eCommerce, commercial arbitration and public policy. Presenters include Kent Walker, General Counsel of Google; Charley Moore, Founder and CEO of RocketLawyer; India Johnson, President and CEO of the American Arbitration Association; and Jim Silkenat, President of the American Bar Association.
