Fisher & Addison Dental is First in Florida to Earn Eco-Dentistry Gold Certification
Miami, Florida (PRWEB) May 21, 2014 -- Fisher & Addison Dental is the first dental practice in Florida and one of the first 100 dental practices in the world to achieve the Eco-Dentistry Association’s Gold Certification by successfully completing the EDA’s GreenDOC™ program. Only dental offices meeting the association’s highest standards of wellness-based practices, pollution prevention, waste reduction, and water and energy conservation qualify as EDA certified offices. Dr. Addison’s office, located in the Pinecrest area of Miami, implemented a wide range of initiatives listed in the GreenDOC program and achieved 309 points, allowing it to earn Gold Certification.
The EDA’s GreenDOC™ program contains over 180 eco-friendly initiatives that dental offices can implement, covering the physical office space, dental processes and materials, and administrative and community outreach methods used by the office. For example, Dr. Addison’s office uses digital imaging and digital patient charting, which reduces landfill waste and patient radiation exposure by as much as 90%, and has installed a special device capturing mercury-containing material before it enters local water supplies.
“We know that our environmental problems are serious and that each of us needs to do what we can to be part of the solution,” said Dr. Addison. “As an EDA Certified practice, we are able to provide the highest quality cosmetic and general dentistry in South Florida using products that are much healthier for our patients while incorporating the highest standards of planetary care.”
Fisher & Addison Dental is focused on using products that are better for patients’ overall health. The dental materials, including composites for fillings, dental sealants and resins and cements for crowns and bridges are BPA-free and Bis-GMA free, providing healthier options for patients young and old. Disposable products used in patient operatories are made of recyclable materials and cotton products used in patient care are organic. The office uses a digital appointment reminder system to reduce waste and buys recycled content office supplies from carbon-neutral companies.
“We applaud the efforts of Dr. Addison and his team, who are on the leading edge of dentistry’s green future”, remarked Dr. Fred Pockrass, a California dentist who co-founded the Eco-Dentistry Association. “It is our vision that one day all dentistry will be practiced in the earth-friendly and patient-friendly way of Dr. Addison’s practice.”
