Apple, Gold, and San Francisco Housing Market: Investments Compared

If you are thinking of getting in, it's not too late. The market continues to be white hot.

San Francisco, California (PRWEB) May 22, 2014

In 2012, investors who chose the San Francisco housing marketing instead of Apple stock -- or even gold -- are clear financial winners now. What do the numbers say? Investing in Apple yielded a 44% return on investment. Gold, on the other hand, resulted in a 17% loss in overall wealth (Paragon Real Estate Group, May 2014 Report).

Where would an investor be now had he or she invested in the San Francisco housing market? His or her return on investment would be a staggering 118%, according to Ruth Krishnan, San Francisco top realtor, of Paragon Real Estate Group (see chart, courtesy of Paragon Real Estate Group, May 2014 Report).

The chart shows that the San Francisco housing market also beat out the US stock market, often seen as the go-to as a high-return investment opportunity.

While returns like these are rare, the San Francisco housing market remains a viable choice for investors looking for places to put their money now. "If you are thinking of getting in, it's not too late. The San Francisco housing marketing continues to be white hot," said Krishnan.

Here are some important things to consider, Krishnan said, when deciding whether to invest in real estate: "You should always plan to hold a real estate investment for 5 to 7 years. This will weather any bumps in the market. The big strength behind the power of real estate is that you leverage your money. You put in 20%, but you get a gain on 100% of the value. There are no other investments that do that."

A final reason investors will want to take a good look at real estate when they are considering where to invest? "You can use your real estate investment," said Krishnan. "You can live in it. Apple stock might provide some tax shelter but it doesn't shelter you from the wind and rain or give you a place to entertain your friends!"
