Greenberg Traurig Receives Seventh Circuit Bar Association’s 2014 Pro Bono & Public Interest Service Award
CHICAGO (PRWEB) May 20, 2014 -- Greenberg Traurig has received the Seventh Circuit Bar Association’s 2014 Pro Bono & Public Interest Service award. The team included restructuring attorneys Matthew T. Gensburg, Nancy A. Peterman and Rebecca D. Rosenthal, and litigation attorneys Bevin M. Brennan and Julia R. Emfinger. The award recognizes the team for its outstanding pro bono work in the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts of Illinois for their efforts on behalf of their client, Steven Boucher, in the case of Best Buy Carpet v. Steven Boucher.
Greenberg Traurig was appointed to represent Boucher in October 2012 in connection with a complicated adversary proceeding in which he had been defending himself. The plaintiff objected to Boucher’s discharge and objected to the dischargeability of plaintiff’s alleged debt against Boucher. The team engaged in significant discovery on Boucher’s behalf and the case culminated in February 2014 in a five-day trial.
According to the Seventh Circuit Bar Association, the team “…devoted hundreds of hours to their pro bono undertaking, consistently providing the debtor with the highest quality of representation, and aiding the Court by performing such exemplary work on his behalf.”
The presentation of the award took place at a dinner during the 63rd Annual Meeting of the
Seventh Circuit Bar Association and Judicial Conference of the Seventh Circuit, which took place in Chicago on May 12, 2014.
