Leaders from DeVry and Western Governors University Join Helix Education
Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) May 21, 2014 -- Helix Education, a world class provider of student lifecycle technologies and services, has hired seasoned education leaders Steve Pappageorge as Chief Product Officer and Senior Vice President, and Tom Caswell as Director of Instructional Design. Pappageorge most recently served as Dean of the College of Continuing Education, New Programs and Outreach at DeVry University, and Caswell was Director of Instructional Design at Western Governors University. Both have extensive insight and experience in the development and implementation of competency-based educational programs.

At DeVry, Pappageorge was responsible for the successful expansion of its continuing education programs, including the development of its competency-based learning initiative and initial MOOC offerings. He also held leadership roles in online operations, technology, student finance, and student services. As Chief Product Officer at Helix Education, he is heavily involved in defining and implementing the company's competency-based education methodology and its student lifecycle solutions, including Helix LMS, a learning management system built for competency-based education.
Caswell has extensive course development experience, having developed over 120 courses and shared competency-based models with numerous community colleges through a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He has consulted for MIT, Creative Commons, and the OpenCourseWare Consortium, is also a former teacher. As Director of Instructional Design at Helix Education, Caswell is working with colleges and universities to strategize, create and expand competency-based educational programs that focus on assessments, content and outcomes.
