Gallery Auctions Artwork in Dogecoin for Charity
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 19, 2014 -- Downtown L.A.’s AGIT Gallery is hosting “Experiment 87a” a celebration of the .gif. The international show brings together unique interpretations from exciting artists in a one night event. To mark the occasion, the organizers will be holding a silent auction where patrons can bid on select works using the cryptocurrency Dogecoin. All proceeds from the auction will be transferred to the Dogecoin Foundation’s general charitable fund directly following the election of the organization’s new board of directors.
“Dogecoin is the perfect fit for our event. It started in internet culture and it keeps growing because of the passion of the community behind it. We’re excited to be able to offer this unique opportunity to the crypto community,” says organizer Dekker Dreyer.
The exhibit will feature seven to ten artists including Australia’s Ian Milliss who recently presented The Yeomans Project at The Art Gallery of New South Wales, LA’s own husband and wife collaborators Dekker Dreyer and Dev.Cyr3n, Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize nominee Cory McAbee, and Parisian designer MJTJ.
Works on display include “Shale Bunchie” where the artist conceptualized bunchie as an ancient fossil of a meme, recorded the sound of transferring the gif on a 2400bps modem, and 3D printed the waveform to resemble a lump of coal. AGIT Gallery is no stranger to pop culture experimentation, with recent shows including a five year retrospective of Tune in Tokyo club posters and a tribute show to cult icon Bruce Campbell, where the notorious actor made a surprise appearance. AGIT is rapidly establishing itself as a venue of note in Los Angeles’s thriving art scene.
