During an illness or injury EMS professionals answer the call to provide lifesaving care in some of the most frightening and stressful times for patients, their families and caregivers.
In recognition of the vital public service first responders, emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics provide, Governor Steve Beshear has proclaimed May 18-24 as Emergency Medical Services Week in Kentucky. The national theme for EMS Week 2014 is “Dedicated. For Life.”
“EMS professionals provide emergency care to those in need around the clock. These dedicated professionals bring years of training and knowledge to every call and their quick thinking leads to heroic acts in our communities every day,” said KBEMS Executive Director Michael Poynter. “I hope Kentuckians will join me this week to say thank you to all of our EMS workers for their commitment and devotion to patient care.”
About National EMS Week: National Emergency Medical Services Week is annually observed the third week of May. The EMS Week designation was first established by President Gerald Ford in 1974 to honor the EMS system of emergency medical technicians, paramedics, firefighters, first responders, emergency physicians, nurses, educators and administrators.
About KBEMS: The Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services (KBEMS) brings lifesaving, emergency medical care to the Commonwealth by certifying First Responders and Emergency Medical Technicians, providing licenses to Paramedics and Ambulance Services and establishing standards for education and training of Emergency Medical Services personnel.
