WMNF 88.5 FM Keeps Over 13,000 Pounds of Electronics Out of Landfills
Tampa, FL (PRWEB) May 22, 2014 -- CRS, an electronics recycling company headquartered in Tampa, partnered with WMNF 88.5 FM in 2013 and has diverted more than 6.5 tons of electronics from landfills over the past year.
Businesses and residents in the Tampa Bay area were encouraged to drop off their electronics for safe recycling. The collection was supported through the efforts of CRS and WMNF’s volunteers and staff leading up to Earth Day in 2013 and 2014. Electronics collected from the community ranged from computers and printers to phones and televisions.
Rather than ending up in landfills--where electronics contribute 70% of toxins--these electronics are safely recycled or reused by CRS. CRS routinely collects computers and other electronics from organizations, businesses, and government entities that no longer need them. If the electronics are in optimal condition, they go through a rigorous process that includes restoring parts for peak performance and wiping any data-containing devices before being resold. If the electronics are at their end-of-life, they are recycled down to a commodity level and resold for the production of new products.
“Our partnership with WMNF gives us a tremendous opportunity to engage the community with electronics recycling,” said Tiffini Schwarzkopf, Executive Director of Marketing at CRS. “One of the biggest benefits of recycling is contributing to a cleaner environment.”
“We are thrilled with the amount of electronics collected through our partnership with CRS,” said Sheila Cowley, Operations Manager at WMNF. She added, “Our primary goal is to serve the community. Providing an outlet for electronics recycling allows each and every one of us to pitch in and contribute to the sustainability movement. Each piece of recycled equipment has an impact far beyond our community.”
