New Horizons is excited to welcome Actress Lauren Potter who plays 'Becky Jackson' on the hit FOX TV show "Glee," and Australian pop singer sensation Cody Simpson, recently seen on ABC’s “Dancing with The Stars,” and Actor Brant Daugherty from ABC Family’s “Pretty Little Liars” to its 7th Annual 5K Run/Walk on the Horizon fundraiser. The event takes place starting at 7:00am with registration and check-in at Hansen Dam Aquatic Center in Lake View Terrace where Ms. Potter will serve as Grand Marshal, kicking off the “dress in your favorite decade” run/walk fundraiser before later being joined by Cody Simpson, when the two announce the event’s race winners. “This year’s event takes place during our 60th year of serving individuals with special needs. We are ecstatic to have Lauren Potter, Cody Simpson and Brant Daugherty help in making the day an exciting and successful one for the clients we serve,” says Cynthia Sewell, New Horizons’ President/ CEO.
This is not the first time Lauren Potter and Cody Simpson have been associated with important causes. Lauren Potter has done an enormous amount of work with Special Olympics and Best Buddies, among other causes. She has been named Ambassador for Special Olympics World Games 2015, and was recently appointed to the President’s Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities. Cody Simpson participates in raising awareness for Multiple Sclerosis, and works closely with Teen Cancer USA. While Brant Daugherty’s mother works for Shriners Hospitals for Children in Cincinnati. New Horizons is proud to be able to partner with these talented individuals as they invite their fans and friends to join their personal run/walk teams, and come out and participate in the day’s fun-filled event, or just raise funds. Registration is $35 for adults; $10 for children under 12 and New Horizons clients. All registered participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt, a “goodie bag,” and a chance to meet Lauren Potter and Cody Simpson live and in person.
With plans for a fitness, health and business expo, music and refreshments, New Horizons’ 5K run and walk will provide fun activities for the whole family -- including the chance to dress up in your favorite decade in order to celebrate New Horizons’ 60 years of service to the community.
Following the event, both run and walk participants are invited to stay for the awards ceremony. Commemorative medals will be given to the top three 5K finishers (Men’s and Women’s Division). Awards will be given to the top fundraisers. For more information on how to sign up and be a part of Lauren Potter or Cody Simpson’s team, visit walkonthehorizon.dojiggy.com.
