Ken Bassett, President of Potomac Testing, was presented with the 2014 NETA Outstanding Achievement Award during the Member and Alliance Luncheon, Monday, March 3, 2014, at PowerTest in Denver, Colorado.
“NETA’s Outstanding Achievement Award is an accolade that recognizes one individual from a NETA Accredited Company who is one of the unsung heroes. This person does more for NETA than anyone will ever know. These unsung heros are selfless with their time; they go above and beyond for a job that pays in handshakes and thank-yous rather than in dollars,” said NETA President Dave Huffman, who presented Ken with the award.
Ken continues to serve on six NETA committees, is the chair of the Membership Application Review Committee, and plays a leadership role for the association on the NETA Board of Directors. He is a NETA Certified Technician, and has only missed one NETA meeting in the past 12 years.
Ken’s electrical testing firm, Potomac Testing, Inc., was launched in 1985. A family operation, the business was started by his father while Ken was still in college at Maryland’s Frostburg State. Ken worked summer jobs with his father at Rogers Electric, later NETA Accredited as Substation Test Company, and worked successfully through apprenticeships and training programs before he and his father established Potomac Testing, which was incorporated in 1990. Initially, the company focused on acceptance and maintenance testing but now offers full range power system support.
“I was very surprised,” Ken said of the award. “There are so many unique individuals who contribute to the success of NETA. It’s a true honor.”
According to Richard Piet, marketing and communications manager for NETA, the Outstanding Achievement Award is presented to someone who has gone above and beyond for the industry and for NETA.
