Three veteran attorneys have joined Steptoe & Johnson PLLC as Members. Phillip J. Binotto; Marcia L. DePaula; and Jana Phillis Grimm will practice labor and employment law from the firm’s office in Canonsburg, Pa. located at the Southpointe Business Park near Pittsburgh. All join Steptoe & Johnson from the law firm of Eckert Seamans.
Phillip J. Binotto’s legal practice focuses on labor and employment law as well as general litigation, complex construction contract litigation, and corporate law. He has experience representing entities such as hospitals, contractors, and manufacturers in an array of employment law matters. Binotto’s practice includes both traditional and non-traditional labor and employment work. He has successfully negotiated collective bargaining agreements for his clients with nearly every major labor union in Western Pennsylvania. He has also defended clients in state and federal employment discrimination claims and lawsuits. Plus, he counsels clients on employee relations practices and the benefits of maintaining a pro-employee environment. Binotto brings to the firm stellar labor and litigation experience. He is also experienced in negotiating leases for oil and gas in West Virginia and Pennsylvania. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from The Pennsylvania State University and his law degree from Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law. Binotto is a Board of Directors member for the Pathways Foundation of Southwestern Pennsylvania, Inc. as well as the Southpointe CEO Association.
Jana Phillis Grimm concentrates her practice in employment and civil litigation. She represents employers in collective bargaining agreements, as well as in discrimination claims before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission. She is also experienced in defending alleged violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act, Family Medical Leave Act, and Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Pennsylvania and West Virginia Unemployment Compensation Acts. Grimm is an approved title and closing attorney for Commonwealth Land Title Insurance Company. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Thiel College and her legal degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Grimm is Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Washington Hospital Foundation and Chair of the Planned Giving Committee.
Marcia L. DePaula has a breadth of experience in commercial and business litigation in addition to her experience in labor and employment law. DePaula is a former Senior Deputy Attorney General with the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, Bureau of Consumer Protection. Throughout her career, she has represented businesses in state and federal litigation involving employment discrimination, retaliation, retaliatory discharge, harassment, and Family Medical Leave Act. She also has extensive experience defending claims involving breach of contract, FTC statutes, Truth-in-Lending Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. DePaula earned both her Bachelor’s and legal degrees from the University of Pittsburgh.
