New York, NY (PRWEB) May 23, 2014 -- Remedy Health Media’s TheBody.com, the complete HIV/AIDS resource, has appointed Julie Davids as managing editor. Davids is a well-known figure in the HIV/AIDS community, and brings more than two decades of experience in HIV/AIDS advocacy and health journalism. In her new role, she will oversee the day-to-day operations of online and offline editorial efforts for TheBody.com, solidifying and expanding its ability to provide the greatest possible depth and breadth of HIV/AIDS information and support.
"I’m delighted to have this opportunity in a period of transformation for HIV/AIDS, healthcare and social issues, and am excited to bring my passion for writing, editing, and purposeful use of digital media to TheBody.com," said Davids.
Davids was most recently the director of national advocacy and mobilization at the AIDS Foundation of Chicago and the leader of the HIV Prevention Justice Alliance (PJA), a role she served in since 2011. Prior, she was the founding executive director of the Community HIV/AIDS Mobilization Project (CHAMP) as well as founding member of the Health Global Access Project (Health GAP). Davids has also served as an external advisor for the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as well as the Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). On the editorial front, she served as lead editor for advocacy-focused websites and blogs for people living with HIV/AIDS, providers, and clinicians, in addition to authoring various reports and analyses for the National Association of State and Territorial AIDS Directors, Positive Women’s Network–USA, Treatment Action Group, and other policy organizations.
"Julie is a perfect fit for us at this crucial stage in our growth," said Myles Helfand, editorial director of TheBody.com. "She is an energetic, stunningly motivated, deeply respected editor, manager and activist who is inspiring to be around. She will help bring a new focus and drive to our editorial efforts as we push to create more informative, supportive and engaging content for people living with, at risk for, or otherwise affected by HIV."
