Organization
MyTech is a leading Malaysian systems integrator and provider of tailored messaging, cloud and disaster recovery solutions.
Problem
MyTech had a sudden flow of orders for advanced corporate messaging systems. Its product portfolio, however, lacked a reliable, effective, and easy-to-deploy messaging solution that would combine all modern means of communication and could run both on Windows and Linux.
“Most companies in North Malaysia switched to Linux because it’s less vulnerable to viruses,” explains Lim Seow Keang, CEO of MyTech.
MyTech team did a thorough review of available Open Source solutions to find the right match. The results were not very encouraging. The company narrowed down its search to two solutions, Scalix and Zimbra, but doubts remained. “The solutions were not stable and did not have much functionality,” says Mr. Lim.
Stability was especially important for MyTech because it wanted to deliver messaging services primarily through a hosted model.
Solution
After running out of known options, Mr. Lim did a Google search and found IceWarp. IceWarp Messaging Server turned out to be the perfect fit because of the large feature set, ease of deployment and ability to run both on Linux and Windows.
Results
MyTech discovered that IceWarp, originally developed for the ISPs, delivers provider-grade availability and scalability.
“We made the decision to start offering IceWarp as a cloud-based server,” says Mr. Lim.
MyTech looked at different deployment scenarios and decided that the most promising would be to deliver IceWarp on Linux CentOS operating system.
“I’m switching all our messaging customers to IceWarp,” says Mr. Lim. “And it’s not just email. Our clients are also using IceWarp’s groupware and mobile synchronization (ActiveSync). Some are using instant messaging modules. IceWarp is very effective for group communications.”
Predictable pricing structure was another winning factor.
“The fact that my clients can use IceWarp on Linux CentOS liberates us from the need to pay for Microsoft Client Access Licenses (CALs),” notes Mr. Lim.
In the future, MyTech is planning to use other IceWarp features, including Internet telephony and SMS-server to power its customers’ marketing programs.
ROI
IceWarp in the cloud turned out to be the winning proposition for MyTech.
“In terms of ROI, IceWarp paid for itself immediately, because we were offering it as a hosted model,” says Mr. Lim. “It’s a stable, easy-to-manage system with good support structure. I can confidently recommend it to other cloud-based services providers.”
