Logan Birchfield is a 17-year-old junior at Elizabethton High School in Elizabethton, TN and has been a Varsity Kicker and Punter under Coach Shawn Witten for the Cyclones football team since his freshman year when he pulled triple duty by kicking and punting for the freshman and JV teams, then JV and Varsity his sophomore and junior years. Logan will be graduating High School in the class of 2015 and says he hopes his dedication and commitment to his position earns him a scholarship opportunity to a good college or university.
Logan has also played varsity soccer and the #3 and #2 positions in tennis for the Cyclones while maintaining a 3.7 GPA in academics as well, stating that; “Athletics is only part of the equation, to get a look and hopefully an offer from a quality University you have to bring skill and grades to the table”. When asked about his 3rd place record achievement Logan said “ There is no way I could have made that many consecutive extra points without the teams help, it took good snaps, good holds, and a strong line for this to happen. Most people don’t realize kicking an extra point or field goal at a minimum takes a three-man team and all three have to do their job right every time.”
Logan earned several other awards last season for his kicking skills. He received numerous “Player of the Week” titles given by different regional businesses, made the All-Conference Team, and received the teams “Most Consistent Player of the Year” Award. He is currently training with his Kicking Coach James Wilhoit to prepare for the summer college recruiting camps. He also plays tennis for the Cyclones in the off-season and was in the run for State with senior teammate Caleb Bailey who was the Cyclones Quarterback and holder for Logan. The two also received “Boys Tennis” All-Conference honors.
