The MarquisCast streaming media player, by Matsunichi, Inc., is receiving a firmware update that brings a new user interface, as well as improved Miracast mirroring. Current MarquisCast owners will be able to update to the new version, version 703045, through the over-the-air firmware update feature located in the settings menu.
The MarquisCast is a streaming HDMI dongle that allows users to stream videos, photos, and music from their Android phone or tablet using DLNA, or on their iPhone or iPad through AirPlay. Users can also stream locally stored media files through a built-in USB port on the MarquisCast, or mirror their Android devices through Miracast technology. With Miracast, users can mirror nearly anything to their big screen, including apps like Netflix, VUDU, YouTube and more.
The new firmware focuses mainly on the improvement of Miracast mirroring. The range for Miracast mirroring has been increased to up to four meters, an improvement over previous versions, as well as bringing fixes to some device compatibility issues. The update also puts Miracast into an “always-on” state, whereas in previous versions, the Miracast function would have to be activated through the menu system in order to connect. With the “always-on” Miracast, users can connect their Android device to the MarquisCast for mirroring without the need to first activate the Miracast feature through the MarquisCast menu. The MarquisCast is now much more seamless, being able to use all DLNA, AirPlay, and Miracast features without the use of a remote control. As always, Miracast mirroring requires Android version 4.2 or newer. The new firmware version also brings a more streamlined user interface, removing the icons previously displayed on the main menu.
The Matsunichi MarquisCast is currently available through retailers like Amazon.com, Walmart, Best Buy, Radioshack, and Sears, as well as distribution channels at Petra Industries, Ingram Micro, and New Age Electronics.
