Abt Associates to Support Communities’ Economic Growth under New National Resource Network
Bethesda, MD (PRWEB) May 22, 2014 -- Abt Associates will help support economic development, housing and job creation efforts in communities throughout the nation under a new National Resource Network, announced today by the Obama Administration.
The Network, funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and led by a consortium from the public and private sectors, will help the nation’s most economically challenged communities through a “311 for Cities” that provides access to a wide range of technical expertise and other resources via the Network website at http://www.nationalresourcenetwork.org. This will include the creation of peer networks for communities to share best practices and lessons learned around common issues. Abt Associates is among several strategic partners working with consortium member Enterprise Community Partners to provide technical assistance and support to cities and related peer networks.
“We look forward to applying the breadth of our expertise – on everything from housing and community development to education and workforce issues – to help solve some of the toughest challenges facing economically distressed cities and communities,” said Mary Joel Holin, vice president of Abt’s Social and Economic Policy Division.
The National Resource Network grew out of the Obama Administration’s Strong Cities, Strong Communities Initiative to create new partnerships between federal agencies and communities that had faced significant long-term economic challenges. The approach was piloted in six communities: Chester, Pa.; Cleveland and Youngstown, Ohio; Detroit, Mich.; Fresno, Calif.; Memphis, Tenn.; and New Orleans.
