New Sugar Ridge Road Bridge in North Ridgeville, Ohio, Nears Completion
Elyria, Ohio (PRWEB) May 27, 2014 -- On Friday, May 9, 2014, nine massive pre-cast concrete sections of the new Sugar Ridge Road Bridge in North Ridgeville, Ohio, were delivered and set in place, bringing this local infrastructure improvement project closer to completion. When fully constructed, the new bridge will close the gap on Sugar Ridge Road between Race and Maddock Roads, providing a safe and reliable route for the more than 4,000 vehicles that use it each day. The project is scheduled for completion in June 2014.
At approximately 8:30 a.m., the nine bridge sections arrived at the project site after being hauled more than 85 miles from Mt. Vernon, Ohio, where they were manufactured. Piece by piece, four wingwalls weighing from 16,000 to 25,000 pounds each, and five 50,000-pound three-sided box culverts were lifted off semi trucks and set into concrete footings. The installation of these bridge components was completed in one day. The next and final step in completing the project is constructing the associated roadway improvements, installing new guardrail, paving, striping and signing.
Design and construction services for this project are being performed by KS Associates, Inc., and Schirmer Construction LLC under a design-build contract with the Lorain County Engineer’s Office. The project has a construction cost of $309,600.
The new bridge replaces an old concrete bridge that was inadequate to support today’s heavier vehicles. KS Associates designed the new Sugar Ridge Road Bridge to allow cars, trucks and semis to use the bridge, thereby providing direct access to local industry. KS also provided surveying services for the project and designed the associated roadway improvements.
