SunGard K-12 Education Celebrates Delaware’s Recognition for Effective Data Use in Education
Dover, Del. (PRWEB) May 28, 2014 -- Today, SunGard K-12 Education, a leading K-12 administrative software and technology services company, celebrated Delaware Department of Education’s national recognition for effective data use. At the event, which was held at South Dover Elementary in Dover, Del., the company announced the creation of a grant program to benefit Delaware school districts.
In its most recent report on data use in education, the Data Quality Campaign (DQC)—a nonprofit, nonpartisan, national advocacy organization based in Washington, D.C.—recognized Delaware as one of only two states that have met all 10 state actions identified by the DQC as supporting effective data use in our nation’s schools. In the foreword of the organization’s most recent annual report, Aimee Rogstad Guidera, founder and executive director of Data Quality Campaign, acknowledged Delaware and Arkansas for their achievements, saying, “This accomplishment is a testament to the consistent and collaborative leadership that has been a hallmark of how these states have responded to the needs of their citizens and have thus made effective data use a reality.”
To support student achievement, the state of Delaware provides all school districts and charter schools SunGard K-12 Education’s eSchoolPLUS for managing student information, IEPPLUS for managing special education, and PerformancePLUS for tracking student performance and building local assessments. The administrative software is deployed to Delaware’s school districts and charter schools via a private cloud environment housed inside the state’s firewall.
At today’s event, George Pepper, SunGard K-12 Education’s chief executive officer and president, recognized the Delaware Department of Education for its efforts.
“Delaware Department of Education is providing the educational systems and information that empower all stakeholders—from parents to policymakers. Through its visionary leadership, the department is supporting an excellent education for every Delaware student. As a result of this education, these students are imagining greater possibilities for their future and are being better prepared to fulfill the promise of their boundless potential,” said Pepper. “Today, SunGard K-12 Education honors Delaware for its achievement.”
During the event, Joel Hames, SunGard K-12 Education’s director of product management, announced the creation of the eSchoolPLUS Data to Insights Grant Program. Through the program, SunGard K-12 will provide funding and training from its skilled Professional Services consultants to help Delaware districts support their teachers in making effective use of the robust data in eSchoolPLUS.
“It is truly an honor to support the incredible work being done in Delaware on behalf of students throughout the state,” said Hames. “With these grants, we will help educators broaden their understanding of student data and continue to strengthen the great work already being done here.”
“We are thankful for this recognition but more importantly for the support being offered for our districts and charter schools to allow additional professional development to their educators,” said Secretary of Education Mark Murphy.
