Sweeney Julian Personal Injury Trial Attorneys PC Supports Patients Needing Bone Marrow Transplants
South Bend, IN (PRWEB) May 22, 2014 -- Sweeney Julian Personal Injury Trial Attorneys PC is proud to support blood cancer patients and the Be The Match Registry®. Individuals between the ages of 18 and 44 are invited to register to save a life while rooting for their local South Bend Silver Hawks team as they take on the West Michigan Whitecaps on Friday, June 13, 2014 at Four Winds Field at 7:35 p.m.
Be The Match connects patients diagnosed with blood cancer with life-saving donor matches. Registration for those who are interested in donating either bone marrow or peripheral blood stem cells is free and easy. All costs are being covered by Sweeney Julian and the South Bend Silver Hawks.
In order to register with Be The Match, Sweeney Julian announced that people simply have to show up to the game. During the game, those who wish to register will simply fill out a form, swab their cheeks, and drop the samples into special envelopes. Before the event, those who wish to participate are encouraged to check out http://www.bethematch.org for detailed information about this life changing commitment you’ll be making to help critically ill patients.
When someone joins the Be The Match Registry, their tissue type is added to the registry, but they don’t actually donate unless they are matched with a patient. If the individual is chosen as a match, the patient’s doctor will either request that they donate bone marrow or peripheral blood stem cells (PBSC). According to Be The Match, once the donation is complete, the donor should be able to return to their normal routine within a few days.
Donors never pay for donating and all medical costs associated with the donation procedure are covered by the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), which operates the Be The Match Registry, or costs are paid by the patient’s medical insurance, as are travel expenses and other nonmedical costs.
