CarePoint Health Donates $50,000 to Bayonne High School for STEM Initiative
Bayonne, NJ (PRWEB) June 10, 2014 -- CarePoint Health and the CarePoint Health Foundation are pleased to announce their commitment to donate $50,000 to Bayonne High School to fund the CarePoint Health Biological Discovery Center as part of the school district’s ongoing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Initiative. The CarePoint Health Biological Discovery Center, nicknamed the "BioDome", will serve as an extension of the school’s biology labs, and will provide opportunities for hands-on scientific research and discovery for students throughout the school district. The donation will be presented at a ceremony on June 9th, 2014 at Bayonne High School and will be attended by Superintendent Patricia L. McGeehan, Ed.D, and representatives from CarePoint Health. The “BioDome” will officially open for the start of the 2014-2015 academic year.
The STEM initiative is part of the continued expansion of the Academy for Fine Arts and Academics at Bayonne High School and the addition of the CarePoint Health Biological Discovery Center is an integral part of the program. Students apply for admission into the STEM Track in order to follow a rigorous, student-inquiry based course of study designed to meet the standards of our nation's top colleges and universities and in preparation for success in 21st Century global careers in STEM fields. The STEM Track includes honors and advanced courses of study in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science.
CarePoint Health and the Bayonne Public School District have shared a positive and productive relationship for several years. As plans for the STEM initiative within the new Academy for Fine Arts and Academics began to take shape, Superintendent Patricia L. McGeehan, Ed.D, immediately recognized the potential benefits of a continued partnership with CarePoint Health. Leaders at CarePoint Health, in light of the strong connections of STEM education to the medical field, saw an opportunity to provide critical funding to the community.
"The Bayonne School District is proud to partner with CarePoint Health to provide exceptional, 21st century resources and technology,” says Superintendent Patricia L. McGeehan, Ed.D. “The donation will provide exciting, inquiry-based scientific learning; further enhance the STEM Wing in the Academy for Fine Arts and Academics, and benefit students across the school district."
