Glass Doctor wants to make preparing for hurricane season easier with these few steps.

Hurricane season is upon us and Glass Doctor wants home and business owners to be ready to handle what Mother Nature will bring. National Hurricane Awareness Week is May 25 through May 31 and Glass Doctor wants to make preparing for hurricane season easier with these few steps.

Be prepared to protect windows
Install special storm panel frames that will be ready to hold plywood panels in place. Remember to cut the plywood to fit at least six inches around the window frame. Also, make sure there is at least two inches from the edge of the windowpane to the outer edge of the exterior wall to prevent damaging the window when the plywood is installed.

Installing window protectors
Before the storm hits secure plywood panels using special clips that fasten to the window frame or brick veneer to secure the plywood to the exterior wall. You may also secure the plywood by drilling screws 18 inches apart around the plywood perimeter. If you do not have storm panel frames you can secure plywood directly to the window frames.

Gather Supplies
Along with securing windows, it is also a good idea to purchase and store non-perishable food, water and other essential supplies that will last you for two weeks. By storing supplies before the bad weather or hurricane hits, you will beat the rush to the store and have access to food and water if there is an electric outage or if rising waters begin to threaten your home.

By following these steps from Glass Doctor you will be better prepared to handle hurricane season.
