Minnesota Cosmetic Surgeon Offers New Blunt Tip Needle (Microcannula) Technique in Injectable Filler Treatments
Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) May 26, 2014 -- Filler injection is among the most common non-surgical facial rejuvenation procedures. Traditionally, the procedure requires the use of a sharp beveled hypodermal needle. It is usually painful when it is injected in the facial skin, especially when a large volume of filler is used or when used in sensitive areas such as the lips because it is cutting through the skin and tissue multiple times. With the introduction of a blunt tip needle, also called a microcannula, filler injections are no longer a painful process. Blunt tip needles for filler injections are similar to regular needles, but they are longer and more flexible, with blunt tips and ports on the sides to allow the filler to be distributed more evenly.
“There are many advantages of a blunt tip needle for filler injections. It doesn’t cause undue distress for the facial tissue and is virtually bruise free,” says Dr. Steven Shu, medical director of Shu Cosmetic Surgery. “Moreover, mechanical stimulation caused by the needle’s back-and-forth movement induces micro-trauma in local tissue, which stimulates fibroblast to produce new collagen and stimulates platelets to release growth factors.”
Traditional filler injections need numerous needle sticks, but blunt tip needles need only two entry points for a typical filler injection and are able to reach much larger areas. The beauty of the blunt tip is that it allows the needle to easily steer its way around blood vessels instead of cutting through them with traditional needles.
