A major seventh chord is a chord consisting of a triad plus a note forming an interval of a seventh above the chord's root, a major triad together with a seventh.
In this easy beginner blues guitar lesson, Jacques demonstrates how to play a Major Seventh Chord in the key of A as follows; 5th fret of the 6th string with first finger and allow your finger to mute the 5th string, 6th fret of the 4th string with 3rd finger, 6th fret of the 3rd string with 4th finger, 5th fret of the 2nd string with 2nd finger and allow your finger to mute the first string. “This is one of many possible voicing’s of the Major Seventh Chord,” says Darville, “it’s almost kind of like a jazzy type of chord”. Jacques says that you should learn this chord all over the neck in different shapes and forms. Darville continues this easy guitar lesson by performing various voicing’s in different keys and by demonstrating some major sounding licks to accent the sound of the Major Seventh Chord voicing including; 12th fret of the 5th string with first finger, 14th fret of the 4th string with 3rd finger, 13th fret of the 3rd string with 2nd finger and 14th fret of the 2nd string with 4th finger.
