Willis Group Launches New Veteran Initiatives Program, “Valor for Vets”
Houston, TX (PRWEB) May 29, 2014 -- Willis Group, a Houston-based talent acquisition and professional services firm, announced today the launch of its new veteran hiring program. This initiative, named “Valor for Vets,” will answer our nation’s challenge to assist America’s veterans, their families and survivors with their transition into a civilian workforce by bridging the gaps for our military personnel, to ensure they have easy access to career development resources.
A key component of the program is the vast network of Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs) that Willis Group will be partnering with to accommodate the growing number of transitioning veterans and family members across the country. These groups assist with resume writing, interview skills training, providing new clothing for job interviews, and other career-related services. Willis Group, through their Valor for Vets program, is currently working with over 500 VSOs.
In addition to serving our nation’s veterans, the new program will allow Willis Group the opportunity to assist the needs of its clients. On March 24, 2014, the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) passed new regulations requiring government contractors to establish a veteran workforce hiring benchmark of 7%, among other obligations. Valor for Vets will enable Willis Group to facilitate compliance for any government contractors identifying a need for additional veteran employees or any organization wishing to increase their veteran workforce. “If it’s that close to right – it’s that close to wrong,” said Mike Willis, Chairman of Willis Group. “We hope our clients take up the challenge to hire at least 10% veterans, whether they have government contracts or not.”
“We are blessed to work with so many amazing people that have dedicated their careers to helping our transitioning families, and we, as a company, are thrilled to be able to give back to our nation’s veterans,” says Tim Stroud, Director of Veteran Initiatives for Willis Group. As a former combat medic and non-commissioned officer in the United States Army and one of the first veterans to be certified as a Peer to Peer Facilitator in the State of Texas, Tim was the perfect choice to lead the development of the Valor for Vets program. He is a founding member of the first virtual VFW (Post 12117), lifetime member of the Association of the United States Army, and Alumni of the Wounded Warrior Project, Alumni of The Mission Continues, and a board member for Operation College Promise. With his extensive knowledge of transitioning benefits for the military, he has been called a subject matter expert, but prefers to be known as a “subject matter enthusiast.”
