Hyper-Reach To Provide Emergency Alerts During Spring Girls on the Run 5K
Rochester, NY (PRWEB) May 27, 2014 -- On Sunday, June 1st, more than 1,500 elementary and middle school girls, their parents, friends and family will gather in Flemington, NJ for the Spring Girls on the Run 5K. And if they sign up by Saturday, May 31st, they will be able to be quickly alerted to any potentially unsafe situations during that event.
Hyper-Reach – a national provider of emergency alert services to public safety officials – is donating emergency alert services to the Girls on the Run organization for the event. This means that the event organizers will be able to send out alerts to everyone who signs up for the service.
Telephone-based emergency alert systems are used by thousands of communities across the United States to notify citizens of danger and help them prepare for disasters. These systems alert people of weather emergencies, missing persons, criminal activity, environmental disasters, and other situations that can cause loss of life and property. The Hyper-Reach system can send thousands of phone calls, text messages and emails in just a few seconds.
Hunterdon, Warren, Bucks and other counties in New Jersey and Pennsylvania already provide emergency alert services to their residents. But different counties use different vendors, which means that a message sent on the Hunterdon system – for example - would not be received by non-residents. So Hyper-Reach – which provides emergency alerts throughout the US – is providing free alert service for all attendees for the event.
“We were thrilled to hear about the Hyper-Reach Event Initiative and how it can improve the safety and security of our event,” said, Susan Lehrer, Race Director of Girls on the Run for Hunterdon, Bucks and Warren Counties. “Hyper-Reach set up our account in a few days. The system is very easy to use, which is important if we really need to use it. We hope that everyone signs up for the alerts as soon as possible.”
Participants and others planning to attend the event can register for the alerts at http://www.usnear.org/girls-on-the--run-5K2/. Registration is managed by the US National Emergency Alert Registry (http://www.usnear.org), which provides registration for emergency alerts throughout the US. As an added service, people who register for alerts for the Girls on the run event can also have their information automatically added to the local alert service provided by their home county. People who want to receive the alerts should register no later than Saturday, May 31, to be sure that their number is in the alert database in time for the event.
“We’re delighted to be able to offer this service to Girls on the Run,” said Sam Asher, president of Hyper-Reach. “We developed the Emergency Alert Initiative to enable non-profits and community groups to be able to alert participants and other folks attending events like this, and it’s gratifying to be of service to such a worthy organization.”

About Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run® (http://www.gotrhunterdon.org/) is a life-changing, experiential learning program that combines training for a 3.1 mile running event with self-esteem enhancing, uplifting workouts. The goals of this youth development program are to encourage positive emotional, social, mental, spiritual and physical development. Through such goals, Girls on the Run works to educate and empower girls at an early age, in order to prevent the display of at-risk activities in the future, including substance/alcohol use, eating disorders, and sedentary lifestyles. The design of the program acts to do just that by first addressing numerous aspects of girls’ development—physical, emotional, mental, and social well-being—in the three-part core curriculum. The lessons are taught by certified Girls on the Run® coaches and include understanding ourselves, valuing teamwork, and recognizing how we connect with and shape the world at large. Then, the girls have the opportunity to choose and conduct a community service project to further develop the vision of every girl knowing and activating her limitless potential.
