Whether taking a boat out on the lake for a weekend get away or sailing around the Caribbean island hopping, the sailing industry is the perfect activity for both professionals and leisure seekers looking for adventure and tranquility. But how has the sailing industry changed in recent years, and has the impact of global situations involving pirates and other ocean based situations caused any sort of regression in the sailing industry at all? Sailing remains one of the purest forms of boating. While improvements to vessels and the craftsmanship of the boat's design has changed slightly, the simple notion of using the wind to guide the movement of the ship remains a mode of transportation centuries old. Explorers around the world used this form of transportation to reach almost every other corner of the globe. While there are few unexplored regions left on the planet, the ailing industry remains a mode of water based transportation tens of thousands of individuals still utilize and "Leading Edge" looks to understand more about this centuries old form of travel.
