AcademyLion, Inc., a Tallahassee-based startup focusing on educational technology will launch its newest product 81Dash, a classroom backchannel designed specifically with teachers and students in mind, on June 1st, 2014.
Backchannels have gained recent popularity in both corporate and educational spaces by allowing participants to communicate in multiple conversations where they can reach a deeper understanding, share effectively, and engage with each other in more meaningful ways. One example is using the backchannel to field ideas and questions during presentations without interrupting a speaker while still allowing members to have input.
With education becoming more infused with technology, teachers are constantly looking for tools that will help meet each student’s individual needs. 81Dash aims to help teachers meet those needs in a safe, secure, streamlined way.
AcademyLion, Inc. founder and president, Carlos Fernandez, said, “As we saw schools make the digital transitions, we knew that we needed to come up with a solution that would allow students access to communicate. We also needed that solution to keep students safe by giving the teacher the opportunity to monitor and have full control of the learning environment. We feel 81Dash does just that!”
And it meets those needs anywhere. Being web-based, 81Dash provides 24/7 learning in an environment where students can respond to each other, regardless of the device used to access it. The tool is mobile, responsive, and flexible enough to be used in any classroom or any school.
Fernandez, who is also a veteran classroom teacher, hopes that this tool will be the first in a line of successful products focused on making the educational experience worthwhile for everyone involved. “81Dash has been a tremendous passion project for me,” he said, “It’s my way of giving back to the profession that I so strongly believe in and support.”
