Internships Lead to Job Offers for Menlo College Students
Atherton, CA (PRWEB) May 30, 2014 -- Just a few entrepreneurial go-getters have the opportunity to create and pitch a revenue model for a new app startup, but Menlo College student Seena Amidi did just that during his spring internship with the video search engine start-up, Baarzo. Seena joined half of the Menlo College spring internship class in securing permanent job offers from their internship-sponsoring organizations.
In 2014, Menlo College launched its Internship Program by partnering with 150 Bay Area organizations. The College also collaborates with the Menlo Park Rotary Club and various regional Chambers of Commerce to provide access to the College’s talented intern pool.
This summer, sixty-five Menlo student interns will earn 6 academic credits for working 400 hours and participating in a weekly interdisciplinary internship seminar on campus with a faculty member.
Teodor Vacav was so impressed with Casey Quan’s performance as an intern that he offered her a full-time position at Marcus & Millichap in Palo Alto upon her May graduation. During her internship, Casey was able to apply her finance skills to assisting with pro forma analyses on commercial properties as well as gain new skills such as creating marketing materials for real estate listings.
Courtney Calicdan, a marketing intern with Appsurdity, earned a job offer for her excellence in managing campus ambassadors for Appsurdity’s Quad app and leveraging social media to build brand awareness. As a junior, she has time to weigh that job offer while she takes on a summer internship in event planning at Devil’s Canyon Brewery.
Although Bank of America intern Narek Ghazaryan has the opportunity to accept a full-time position with Bank of America affiliate, Merrill Lynch, in London, his internship helped him realize that his passion lies in international development. This fall, Narek will attend the University of San Francisco’s M.A. program in International Studies.
Tim Lopez spent nine months interning with Knock Twice, a hybrid creative agency in San Francisco. He is now a Knock Twice account executive, co-managing PR and brand accounts for clients across the tech sector.
“It has been an absolute pleasure hosting a Menlo student as an intern. It has been a total win-win for both the student and the organization. I am impressed with the quality of the student and the quality of her work. The internship program is a great addition to the Menlo curriculum and such a great opportunity for the Menlo students,” said Hanna Malak, account manager at American Red Cross, who supervised intern, Karen Perez-Torres.
