Miami, FL (PRWEB) May 29, 2014

PrestaShop, the world’s leading free and Open source ecommerce platform, today announced that 185,000 merchants are now using PrestaShop as their ecommerce platform of choice. In addition, PrestaShop announced that its community members have earned over $10M in revenue to date through their contributions to PrestaShop’s Official Marketplace, which includes over 3,500 modules and themes that merchants can use to enhance their online stores.

Since its launch in 2007, PrestaShop has helped merchants process more than $15 billion in sales with its powerful, user-friendly Open source ecommerce software. In March of 2014, PrestaShop introduced PrestaShop v1.6, which includes a variety of new features like real-time statistics, unique key performance indicators, the ability to edit live templates, and a completely redesigned user interface. To date, PrestaShop v1.6 has been downloaded over 215,000 times. Within the first 24 hours it was downloaded over 20,000 times, making PrestaShop one of the most downloaded Open source software in the industry.

PrestaShop v1.6 came out of an alliance with its 620,000-member community to create a free solution that completely empowers online retailers to make smarter businesses decisions to help them take their business to the next level. PrestaShop’s active community includes developers who assist PrestaShop with translating and localizing in more than 60 languages, and contribute everything from code to templates. These contributions, which are available as Addons through PrestaShop’s Official Marketplace, have helped them to earn the community members over $10M in direct revenue.

“PrestaShop’s Open source ecosystem truly allows everyone - merchants and community members - to benefit creatively and financially. We’re the most used Open source ecommerce platform on the market today,” said Bruno Leveque, Co-Founder of PrestaShop. “PrestaShop v1.6 was downloaded every 4 seconds for the first 24 hours it was live which was a huge record for us, and an incredible testament to our team and our community that we’ve been able to build over the years.”

PrestaShop’s freemium business model allows merchants to build and manage an online store at no cost. Merchants can also fully customize their online store with 310+ built-in features and can choose from thousands of features, modules and templates available on PrestaShop’s Official Marketplace.
