I have great admiration for the integrity of the leadership team and their commitment to doing what’s best for their customers – an approach that I have seen pay dividends again and again throughout my career.

Chrome River, a leading provider of expense management and supplier invoice processing software, today announced the appointment of Joseph Essas, chief technology officer of OpenTable, to its board of directors. With his extensive experience in developing and bringing innovative technology products to market, Essas will contribute to Chrome River’s continued growth and strategic direction.

“Chrome River was appealing to me for two reasons,” said Essas. “First, they are a very product-focused company always looking for ways to innovate and delight their customers. Second, I have great admiration for the integrity of the leadership team and their commitment to doing what’s best for their customers – an approach that I have seen pay dividends again and again throughout my career.”

Essas has more than 20 years of experience in information technology, holding both executive management and engineering positions. He has served in his current role as chief technology officer of OpenTable, the world's leading provider of online restaurant reservations, since 2012. Previously, he was chief technology officer and vice president of engineering and operations for eHarmony and also vice president of engineering at Yahoo!. He is currently a venture partner at FirstMark Capital in New York.

“Joseph brings tremendous experience building and growing market share for innovative products, and we will tap his expertise to tackle new markets and build additional mobile capabilities,” noted Alan Rich, co-founder and chief executive officer of Chrome River. “Expense reporting and invoice automation will continue to be a key area for companies to lower operational costs and reduce fraud risk, which will in turn fuel Chrome River’s growth for years to come. We are very pleased to have someone of Joseph’s caliber participating in the strategic mapping of our continued growth.”

Recently, Chrome River raised $17 million in Series C funding led by Bain Venture Capital and has expanded both sales operations and its R&D efforts.
